New Rector for St. Paul’s Announced

New Rector for St. Paul’s Announced

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek announces that Rev. Krista Fregoso will be the next Rector, effective August 1, 2018. Rev. Krista’s first worship services at St. Paul’s will be Sunday, August 5. She and her husband, Tom, will reside in Walnut Creek.

Rev. Krista was an elementary school teacher and Peace Corps volunteer before attending seminary at (CDSP) Church Divinity School of the Pacific and being ordained to the priesthood in 2009. She has been the Associate Rector at St. John’s, Montclair for the last 6 years, and is excited to join us on August 1st.

With great appreciation for her guidance over the last year and a half, we will be saying goodbye to the Rev. Audrey Miskelley on Sunday, June 10th.  Rev. Audrey and her family will be on vacation for a couple of weeks before she moves onto another church that is beginning the rector search process. She has guided us through the transition from the ending of Rev. Sylvia’s tenure, through the calling process, and has been instrumental in helping the congregation transition from one ministry to the next.

Many thanks go to the Vestry and Search Committee, Rev. Audrey Miskelley and Denise Obando, Transition Minister from the Diocese of California. It is with excitement that we anticipate this next phase of our life together and encourage your prayers and participation as we prepare for Rev. Krista’s arrival.

Rev. Krista Fregoso Biography

Krista grew up in North Carolina where she learned the art of Southern expressions and “true” BBQ. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double degree in Biology and in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, Krista went on to serve in the Peace Corps in Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, she opened a school English library and learned the skill of including feta in every meal. After Peace Corps, Krista taught 4th and 5th grade at a public Montessori School in Raleigh, NC.

After 9/11, she began to discern a call to the Priesthood. She attended seminary at Church Divinity School of the Pacific where she met her husband, a bay area native, Tom Fregoso. Her first call as an Associate for Family Ministries was at St. Francis, Palos Verdes in the Diocese of Los Angeles. She also worked as Chaplain for U.C. Riverside. She moved back to the Bay Area in 2011 to become the Associate Rector at St. Johns Oakland. Tom works as a youth minister at St. John’s Ross.

Krista and Tom love to cook, go camping, play board games, travel, run, and hike. Krista spends her free time doing sudoku or Ken Kens, going to the theater, working in the garden and crafting creations out of Make Magazine. Every summer Tom and Krista spend a week together as Summer Camp Chaplains at the Bishop’s Ranch.
