Hello, friends in Christ!
I’m Cal Payne-Taylor, your new seminarian intern for the coming academic year. I am a cradle Episcopalian raised in the Boston area by an Anglo-Catholic family and Reformed Jewish godparents, so the beauty of “High Church” Episcopal liturgy, as well as building interreligious connections and community, have always been guiding passions of mine.
Having lived in the Bay Area since 2015, I am now entering the second year of my Master of Divinity program at Church Divinity School of the Pacific. I also hold a Master of Arts from UC Berkeley in medieval and early modern European religious history. You’ll find me an especially enthusiastic conversation partner at Coffee Hour if you bring up the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Star Trek, M*A*S*H, long-range backpacking, Christian existentialism, or gardening of any kind. I’m a tree climber, avid outdoorsman, contemplative extrovert, and complete goofball.
As a Postulant for the priesthood right here in the Diocese of California, there’s no other parish I’d rather learn and serve with than St. Paul’s, and I can’t wait to dive into Christian formation and fellowship with you.
Peace be with you. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Thanks, Cal
