It’s time to break out of the tomb. Break out, spring forth, rejoice! Easter is a great season to break free from the tomb.
Over these past couple of years, we, as a community, have come to understand what it means to be entombed. As the first deadly strain of COVID-19 hit our community, we put up walls and boundaries to keep each other safe. Before we knew it, it had been two years of social distancing and COVID restrictions.
Tombs, of course, are not just the literal and physical spaces that have kept us from each other. They can come in all different shapes and sizes. They can be ideological, relational, political, or even theological. Tombs can be a particular way we do things, never trying something new or different. A tomb can be saying over coffee that everything is “fine,”, just to be polite, holding back on what we feel or honestly want to say. A tomb can be cynicism as we watch the news and see the suffering around us.
It’s time to break out, spring forth, and rejoice because Easter is when we, as a community, proclaim the truth that the kingdom of God is real, that love never ends,
and life ultimately wins over death.
Proclaiming that life, love, and hope wins in the midst of our world is a powerful, rebellious act of love. And it doesn’t just stop there.
Emily Dickinson wrote, “Hope inspires the good to reveal itself.” I believe that celebrating Easter together inspires and renews us to go out into the world and bring forth more love and light. It reminds us where the tools are to break free from the tomb and inspires goodness within ourselves and the world. What a rebellious act!
Come and be rebellious with us, celebrate hope in the midst of our world.
There are two great opportunities to shake off the dust and break forth from the tomb:
The first is a potluck fundraiser watch party for Trinity Center on Thursday, May 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. We will watch together, bid together, and raise money for our amazing partner, Trinity Center.
The second is a Pentecost celebration following the 9:30 am service on Sunday, June 5 in the Common’s courtyard. Trinity Center will host an open house for the church to get a peek into the Common’s building and see firsthand inside Trinity Center and St. Paul’s Commons. There will be lots of activities and fun as we celebrate the birthday of the church.
I look forward to seeing you there.
